With Colin being called away a short noticed on Friday evening, I got my chance to impersonate one of CrossFit London most popular trainers – fun times!
For maximum authenticity I used the workouts that Colin had planned for the day…but not before taking the opportunity to engage in some classic warm-up buffoonery: inch-worms, star jumps, crab walks, mountain climbing and duck (gollum?) walking all featured.
Moving on the workout proper, we started with a crunchy strength session focusing on the deadlift. A weight approximately 80% of your one-rep max (similar to your 5 rep max) was chosen. From then CrossFit London’s finest made one lift per minute for 12 minutes. The remaining 50 or so seconds before the next lift were filled with a selection sub-minute vignettes and conversational samplers provided by yours truly.
Very sorry for the banality folks. Being Fake Colin ‘aint easy…
The workout proper was classic menacing Menniss:
- 50 pull-ups buy-in
- Kettlebell swings 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
- Burpees 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10
- 50 box jumps cash out
Heavy kettlebells and tall boxes were the order of the day. And everyone just smashed it! I was extremely impressed with everyone who picked up some heavy kettlebells (props to Joe, Cian, Edd, Sophia and Joy, in particular) and just got the work done.
The burpees had the potential to be soul crushing – especially in combination with the swings – but everyone got through them. Teeth gritted, lungs burning and muscle aching – awesome to behold!
To top it all, pretty much every one of the 20-odd people who did the WOD this morning finished in under 20 minutes! Great work folks!
