Today’s foundations was another test of new programming. How much does overhead squatting suck?
Turns out, it sucks lots.
Overhead squat practice and prep followed by:
10-10-10-10-10+ Overhead squats @ 60% 1RM
The biggest problem here is that if technique isn’t perfectly honed on the overhead squat, it’s extremely difficult to be able to maintain high volume or weight with proper form.
Everyone in foundations managed to hit a pretty decent bottom position (Whatever it is, go lower.) quickly which held up well under load so I was quite happy with their performance.
WOD prep was: Deadlift position and working up to a weight for the workout.
5 Rounds for time:
5 Deadlifts @50-60% 1RM
20 Box jumps/tuck jumps
We were short on boxes (damn you main class!) so we had to make do with tuck jumps. Not that it helps make things easier in any way. This wasn’t a long workout, but heavier deadlifts always leave you a bit winded, which is great because tuck jumps don’t let you catch your breath either. What’s not to like?
See everyone Sunday!
