Judging during the Open

20 Feb

This week sees the start of the 2017 CrossFit Games Open. All throughout the day on Friday we will run workout 17.1 which will be announced in the early hours of the morning (1am our time).

Tim and Nick will be coaching this year’s main Open workouts, with all of us on rotation for the Sunday catch-up.

You may, for whatever reason, have decided that you don’t want to register and compete. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get involved. The workouts are open to all our members and like any other class, you will show up, be warmed up, cued and prepped and can still be involved.

In addition to doing the workout, it also very likely that at some point you’ll be asked to judge one of your fellow athletes. To do so you will be required to know movement standards, common faults and be competent at rep counting (have you ever tried to count somebody else’s double-unders before?). Now the coach will go over this but if you want to feel even more prepared then you can do the online Judges Course.

This is will give you the confidence to judge others with confidence and accuracy. It costs £8 ($10) and you can stop and start the five modules and final test i.e. if part of the test is infuriating you, then you can go cool of for 30 minutes and then come back to it.

You will cover squatting, pressing, pulling, hanging and additional movements within the modules. It’s a good course to complete for anyone with an interest in competitive competitions, as athlete or judge.

Plus you get a fancy certificate… like these:
